Meet George Pirie
George’s family roots began in Porcupine over 100 years ago, giving him a complete understanding of the rich, cultural mosaic of Timmins and the challenges communities face. As Mayor, George worked tirelessly to keep the people of Timmins safe and oversaw the largest mining boom in fifty years.
Prior to entering municipal politics, George was a senior mining executive for over thirty-five years, including being the President and CEO of Placer Dome Canada, President and CEO of Breakwater Resources, and President and CEO of San Gold Inc.
George has volunteered and has been involved in many community initiatives, leading campaigns for the local United Way, serving on the hospital board, as well as being a governor at Northern College for six years, including Chairman of the Board for his last two years as Mayor.
George is a graduate of Laurentian University and is happily married with two children and three grandchildren.
